Thirty-One Thursday! My Favorite Item!

My all time favorite Thirty-One item is the Zipper Pouch! Just $12!!! Now as a Thirty-One Consultant you were probably expecting me to select a more expensive item to promote on my blog. (That's what most people in the direct selling business would do.) Not me! I've used this product on a daily basis since mid-June of this year. I actually bought it from my sister's Thirty-One party in newport stripe and had my initials embroidered in lime green. It looks totally awesome by the way!

So this season the Zipper Pouch comes in eight patterns: Paparazzi Dot, Onyx Medallion, Peacock Paisley, Organic Flower, Counting, I'm a Hoot, Floral Fanfare and not pictured Boho Patchwork Paisley.

Here it is in Floral Fanfare, which is shaping up to be a very popular new pattern! This product is larger than you think when looking at the catalog. It is 12.5"w x 9"h x 2.5"d, and has a plastic lining so you can place things that may spill.

And in organic flower...

And in I'm a Hoot! LOVE this cute fabric. I'm ordering one of these with "ELI" in white.
Can I come up with Thirty-One uses for the Zipper Pouch?
1. Diapers and Wipes
2. First-aid Kit
3. Makeup
4. Travel bag for liquids (I use it for my large size shampoo, conditioner, etc)
5. Swimsuit (it's waterproof!)
6. Pencil Bag
7. Snacks
8. Extra set of clothes for your little one
9. Clutch purse - I've thrown what I need from my purse and taken in to the grocery store
10. Coin collector
11. Yard Sale money holder
12. Barbie accessories (clothes, shoes)
13. Small travel electronics
14. Purchase as gift and theme it up by adding your own low cost items: spa, games, teacher, etc.
15. Manicure stuff
16. Kids bag for waiting at doctors office
17. Hair tote - ribbons, bows, clips
18. Sewing Kit
19. Add camera, keys, etc and throw in beach bag
20. Legos, Matchbox Cars
21. Scrapbooking stickers, smaller tools, etc
22. Misc cord storage
23. Lingerie Bag
24. Household Tools
25. CD players and CD's
26. Vacation Keepsakes - Travel Brochures, stubs, etc
27. Equipment Manuals
28. Picnic Utensils
29. Car Registration and Manual in glovebox
30. Recipts for major purchases
31. Crayons and Coloring Book
Did it! I hope you reward yourself or someone you know with a Zipper Pouch! It has SO many uses!

How do they know?

How do children instinctively know when you are about to go on a trip?

We are heading out today once Hayes gets out of school, and Eli would not go to sleep last night! He finally went to sleep around 9:30pm. Also, I always wash sheets the night before we go on a trip (a little thing I picked up from my mom), so that everyone has clean sheets when we get back home. Well I washed Hayes's sheets yesterday, and guess what? Yep! That's right! His pull-up overflowed last night. So...back to washing sheets.

Guess who can sit up all by himself?

That's right! Eli!

This morning at 10:25am he sat up on Hayes's bed all by himself with the shaky, whoa effect. Hayes missed it. He was eating his apple watching Toy Story 2 that I had put on while getting ready. I had just called for "all children in this house that need clothes on to Hayes's room," but he still missed it.

The Truth is in the Handbag

Here is a devotion from Proverbs 31 Ministries. Unaffliated with Thirty-One Gifts, but I thought appropriate for Thirty-One Thursday.

The Truth is in the Handbag
25 Aug 2010
Shari Braendel

"Since you are my rock and my fortress, for the sake of your name lead and guide me." Psalm 31:3 (NIV)

I recently watched as a frazzled shopper fumbled around in her bag trying to find her allusive keys. As she dug through her overstuffed purse, multiple items spilled out, landing on the counter and falling to the floor. Quickly, she began collecting her items.

I thought about her pretty purse, beautiful on the outside but hiding an unruly mess on the inside. And then I started thinking about how alike women and purses can be.

Maybe you're like a small purse that only has the capacity to hold a few things. Yet you try stuffing more into your life than you can hold, only to get frustrated. Perhaps one of those things is God: He's been crammed into a tiny space in your world and you don't give Him much room to rule because you feel more comfortable when you are in control.

Perhaps you're like a big purse, carrying all kinds of things. You're involving yourself in so many activities just because you can; with no real purpose to why you're doing it. You end up flustered like the shopper digging for her keys because you haven't spent the time needed to organize your spiritual life.

I know you're not a handbag, but when applying biblical truth and application, what kind of purse are you most like?

It's not God's desire for our inside to be out of sync with our outside. He desires for us to have our hearts turned toward Him and have our very pulse in beat with what He is doing in us.

Where should we start to curb the chaos, release our controlling tendencies and lighten the busyness to fall in step with God?

Start by being still. For some, that will go against every fiber of your being, but try it. Perhaps you abide in chaos because it's masking what is really going on with you, just like your pretty purse hides the unorganized mess within. Sit quietly and pray for God to help you be keenly aware of Him. Nothing that you are going through is a surprise to God.

Next, relax and trust the Lord. Sometimes feeling out of control causes you to hyper-control everything around you. Let go of your fears, doubts and worries and make room for God in your life.

Finally, clear your calendar. We overbook and over-schedule out of habit and now busy feels normal. Is your fast pace driven by fear, or does it define your value or identity? If so, re-evaluate where your time and energy are being spent and why.

Making a change doesn't come easily, but it can be done. Although seeking out time with God, learning to trust Him, and reorganizing your priorities can feel uncomfortable and difficult at first, I know for sure that it's not nearly as hard as living overcommitted and out of control.

Together, let's commit to cleaning out our "purses!"

Dear Father, will You please meet me right here, right now and quiet my heart so that I can rest and regroup? Thank You for the comfort of knowing that while I sometimes get waylaid, You never take Your eyes from me. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

Alea's Herbed Chicken

Here is a slightly modified version of Alea’s Herbed Chicken on Vegetable Confetti.

I sauteed onions, squash and zucchini with some basil and garlic. I did use her herbed chicken spice rub and it was really good! I think coriander is my new favorite spice. Then I prepared some fettuccine and added just a little olive oil and some basil pesto. Topped with some mozzarella cheese.

Daniel: Lives of Integrity, Words of Prophecy

Just finished up a bible study on James a couple of weeks ago, and I'm starting Beth Moore's bible study on Daniel tomorrow morning at Cornerstone Community Church. It is every Monday morning from 8:30am-10:30am. Thankfully they offer childcare so Hayes and Eli will go with me. We'll have a quick break before Hayes has to be at school at noon.

If you've never done a bible study before Beth Moore does a great job! Most (or all?) of her bible studies have a video and a 5 day study guide. This bible study happens to be at the church we are visiting. Most churches welcome non-members to their bible study so look for one at a church near you! Great opportunity to be in the word with other women and to have a support system!

The prophet Daniel faced unbelievable pressures to compromise his faith, to live in a hostile culture, and to confront temptations and threats. Today, believers in Jesus Christ face many of the same trials.

This Old Testament Bible study falls in two parts and can be used as one (12 session) study or two separate (6 session) studies. The first portion, from Daniel chapters 1-6, deals with Daniel's life as he faced the kind of pressures and temptations Christians encounter today. Daniel models how to develop enduring integrity in an enticing world. The second portion, chapters 7-12, explores thrilling prophecies from the time of Daniel through the second coming of Jesus Christ.

Eli posing

Thought this was a cute pic from Labor Day.

Fish Tacos

Our Fish Tacos ended up being Fish Taco Salad because the whole wheat taco shells were broken. Those taco shells are by Ortega and are really good.

So I used a white fish (actually Alaskan Pollack because it was the only wild caught frozen fish I could find that day without Carbon Monoxide (gross) in it) and the following:
- red onion and tomatoes
- yellow and red bell pepper
- Mexican cheese
- avocado slices
- cabbage (the packaged kind)
- cilantro-lime vinaigrette - I also let the fish marinate in this for about 20 minutes.

I sprinkled a little onion powder, garlic powder and paprika on the corn and it was much yummier that way! Sheldon even ate it and he is not a big fan of corn on the cob. I think he doesn't like to get it in his teeth.

Our Menu

So we have been talking about how bored we are with the same old meals, so I've come up with some new things from two websites I recently found.

http://www.5dollardinners.com

http://ourbestbites2.blogspot.com/2008/12/poultry.html

From Our Best Bites I'm trying the Fish Tacos with Cilantro-Lime Vinaigrette with herb buttered corn.

From $5 Dinners I'm trying Herbed Chicken on Vegetables, but am also going to add a little fettuccine.

Also this week we'll have:

  • Baked Spaghetti with salad
  • Baked Potatoes with Broccoli & Cheese and a salad
  • Beef Kabobs w/ whatever remaining veggies from the fridge over wild mushroom and herb couscous
  • Friday I'm going to Paducah, KY to eat at the Olive Garden with some friends. I have a standby frozen pizza for Sheldon and Hayes.

Please comment if you try or have tried anything from these sites.

Where is Hayes?

Last Wednesday I was working in the living room on the computer. Hayes was up and running back and forth from the living room to his room with different toys. He had been really loud, and then silence for a couple of minutes. So I thought I better go check out what he is doing. I went down our very short hallway calling, "Hayes, where are you?" Nothing! Looked in his room. Nothing. Then I noticed that Eli's door was no longer closed all the way like it had been after I put him down for his nap.

Here is what I found!

Yep! Hayes had crawled up into the crib and was playing with Eli. Which meant he woke Eli up from his nap.
The people I already told about this asked if I told Hayes to get out and not go in there again when Eli is napping. No I didn't tell him that. I thought about it, but I was too busy laughing at what he had done.

Brotherly love.

Bonus + Labor Day Weekend Sale =

Happy Clemson fans.

Sheldon got our new 46" tv hooked up just before the most exciting 25 seconds of college football.

Happy Clemson fan. (Hayes has been putting post it notes on all our doors.)
Our newest Tiger fan.
He's just enjoying playing with the cardboard boxes from the new TV.

Our Friday Morning!

Friday morning we were trying to get out of the house to make it to a playdate at Barnes & Noble in Carbondale! Hayes happened upon his goggles and proceeded to wear them into Barnes & Noble. He did take them off before everyone else arrived. He did gets some strange looks and laughs from the Barnes & Noble employees.
And here is Eli not enjoying his exersaucer!

Birthday Festivities

After a visit to the newly opened Marion Fujiami hibachi restaurant we had cake.

Reese's icecream cake from Dairy Queeen. Nothing but goodness!

You know you want to try one!

Post twinkie consumption and on our way out of the fair we passed by the Krispy Kreme Doughnut Hamburger stand. That's right! They use half of a Krispy Kreme regular glazed doughnut on top and bottom instead of a regular hamburger bun. We've seen these on the Food Network when they were featuring different food sold at various baseball parks. Luckily they were sold out! (However, the baseball park featured is in Illinois not far from us.)

Leroy the Monkey

Well we were leaving the fair, and as we walked along I spotted this little monkey. Of course we had to stop along with everyone else. This is Leroy the monkey dressed up in this hideous outfit. He is a Capuchin monkey. Capuchins live up to 20 years in the wild and 40 in captivity, and they range through Central and South America. Leroy is 13 years old and eats monkey chow(?), fruit, veggies and snacks(?). He works about five months out of the year and then spend time at home(?) enjoying playing in a large enclosure with trees, swings, toys and a pool.

Okay so you could give Leroy a quarter and he would give you a high-five. Give him $1 and he would bring a coloring book or picture back. Of course you could get your picture taken for $5. So Hayes wanted to do it and we didn't have a quarter, of course.

Sheldon gives him $1 and here comes Leroy to get it. Leroy snags the dollar bill and what we didn't get on camera is this. Leroy took the $1 bill and started walking off to get Hayes's coloring book. Leroy all of sudden turned back around toward Hayes and gently grabbed his left thumb. Leroy proceeded to lick and lick and lick Hayes's thumb. I was panic stricken, but Hayes remained calm and so did I, but obviously didn't get a picture. Thankfully everyone remained calm, and the monkey trainer said, "looks like Leroy found himself a little treat."

We had just eaten the deep fried Twinkie with powdered sugar that Hayes was dipping his finger in and out of. Leroy licked it clean and brought him the coloring book.

Eli's First Meal

Last Saturday Eli had his first serving of rice cereal. I also mixed a little baby applesauce in it too.

Waiting...
(does this look like a baby that has been food deprived?)
Watching...
Open up...
What is this stuff?

Well after a week he is still learning how to actually get the cereal off the spoon. Most times he still thrusts his tongue out licking it like a dog. I was starting to get a little frustrated after a week, but this is probably the last baby I'll have to help learn how to eat. So now I'm just being patient and enjoying it. Even when he sneezes with cereal in his mouth or when he decides to blow bubbles with a mouthful!
